Bus 54 at Whitsunday Airport

Here's some photos I took at the Whitsunday Transit Depot over the 2004 Holiday period.

Thanks to the Info on the Bus Australia Fleet Lists, I have attempted to complete some info on the buses pictured. Thanks also to the forum members on the Bus Australia forum for help in identification and history of the buses pictured.

462ELN (ex 984PJV)| It's a MAN SR240 with Dennong Majestic Body.

Another Attempt at the front. It was having its clutch repaired at the time and couldn't be moved.

Inside the Door

Console. Looks as though the Radio/Cassette has been removed. It's fully air-conditioned, with a 6speed Manual transmission.

Interior Rear View. Curtains have been removed since it was in service for Sampsons.

Interior forward view. The other coaches that Sampsons had from the same period had a TV set in the centre in the front above the Isle. I believe it was left off this one as it had the flat floor, and taller people would bump their heads on it.

Close up on the front. This bus didn't have a destination sign set up in the drivers-side window.

Rear view of the bodywork.

197BZB | MAN Chassis and Coach Design Bodywork, this is the only one of 4 Remaining in the fleet. There were 3 48 seaters and 1 61 seater purchased by Sampsons in 1997 (This is the 61 seater). 6 Speed Manual transmission, nicely built in TV and VCR and fully air-conditioned.

Another Attempt at the front.

Inside the Door

Console. Much nicer than the 1988 models.

Interior Rear View. Curtains have been removed since it was in service for Sampsons. The Padding over the top of the seats is a new addition. The other 3 coaces from the same period had coach-style recliners.

154DFB | MAN 16.290 - One of the last 2 coaches that Sampsons purchased before the sale to Crossleys. Sampsons took one with them, leaving this one. It's MAN chassis and Coach Design bodywork, a few subtle differences to the 1993 models, being auto transmission, and this was the first to be 100 speed limited. Seats were recliner style, but not as comfy as the 1993 models. Fancier seat fabric and slicker design inside. These were purchased in November 95

Rear View.

608ESC | Mercedes O405NH with Bustech Bodywork (One of the first) this is one of 3 that were purchased when Crossleys took over Sampsons in October 1998. Low floor, with wheelchair accessibility. Air-conditioned, with auto transmission.

Console. Looks a bit simple!

Very much like STA Government interior here...

812HKA is a MAN SG220 / Goppell reregd of 999 PTX ex Brisbane City Council (999), purchased around 1991. It was plain white for a few years, until the logo was changed around 1997, when it was painted down the side. The fish were added as an advertisement for local tour boat company Fantasea. Livery hasn't been updated (Just logo added to the front). Bus has since been withdrawn and was last seen in a paddock on the Bruce Highway about 15km north of Proserpine

I couldn't resist!

296ENL | Mercedes O305G - There was 3 artic's in the fleet for many years, one was a bit troublesome, and seems to have disappeared. This was the third addition, which arrived around 1998, 1999. Ex Action Canberra 613 BUS613

Alternate View.

Rear

418FAJ | Mercedes O305 / PMC addition that came with Crossleys. There's a couple of these that are used quite a bit on route work. I thought the sign in the front was quite amusing! Ex STA Sydney 2503

Rear View. This livery was used in 1998 with the new Mercs and these additions from Sydney. The Logo was adapted from the Whitsunday Tourism Bureau's promotional logo, but has since been dropped. The livery has also been changed, to pale blue for the school buses/route work, and White for the Coaches that do Airport/Rail connections.

413HDF | Mercedes OC1617/Custom Coaches. Ex Dubbo Coaches (37) MO0526

460ELN (Ex 124PXY) | Nissan RB30P/Custom Coaches bus, from the original Sampsons fleet (1987), the last to be repainted out of the Sampsons Yellow Livery into the Crossleys Blue. The finishing touches are being added to it here, before it returns to service for the 2005 school year.

561CZO | Scania K93/CC ex Peninsula Bus Lines, Ourimbah MO 1236. Must do Bowen runs.

Ex 887EXN | Came from Sydney when Crossleys took over. Must be used now for spares. Notice the desto! I'm guessing it's Mercedes O305 - ex (6) FRW006, ESX006 Ventura Bus Lines[8/91-4/99], Oakleigh Vic. ex (unused) East West Bus Lines [5/91-Returned to STA for resale], Gordon N.S.W.

Nissan RB30P / Custom Coaches bus. Ex Tamworth Coaches (3) MO9238. One of the original Sampsons Fleet

Nothing to do with Whitsunday Transit, this bus is sitting in a yard in Brandon, an hour south of Townsville.
